What a turn out it was for our first Round of Series 1 last Sunday 17th February. The hot and dry conditions couldn't keep away 44 eager riders to have some fun, learn new skills and try to earn themselves points for what looks to be an exciting series.
The day started a little differently than usual with a Mexican wave to get the kids into the spirit of the day (and conveniently fill in time until riding can commence at 9.30am). Thanks to a very organized committee and a great team of helpers for having everything ready to go on time. 65cc and Miniwheels both had 10 riders with very tight competition and a great level of skill, especially considering it's only the first round and many of our riders are new. 50cc was our smallest group with only 2 riders, however, great competition was still witnessed. Events included: Slow, Ring Return, Orange, Bending, AccelR8, Non-Footing Clover and Minicross. The canteen was well prepped thanks to our canteen team with sausages and burgers for all! Our podium winners for the day were: 50cc Auto - 1st Sienna #32 Miniwheels - 1st Chad #17 65cc - 1st Sam #150 85cc - 1st Byron #61, and Junior Big Wheels - 1st Declan #91 Our 6 nippers were; Harper #93 Tyla #25 Hudson #100 Karl # 214 Ryder #823 Jaxon #20 Congratulations to all riders who competed on the day as the conditions were very hot & dry. Also a big congrats to all parents, family members & friends who helped make the day possible. Check out some of the fantastic action shots here courtesy of Steve Jackson. Also the ‘points’ for the day have been posted on the website and can also be found here. This Sunday 24th Feb we have Rnd 1 of a Tri series Minicross round at JT club (Junior Trials) Gwandalan. All Hornsby members are welcome to attend. This is always a fun day out as it will be motocross all day! See the home page or facebook site for entry details. Hornsby held the second practice day for the year on Sunday 3rd February.
With 33 current members turning up all very eager to ride and an additional 12 new members ready to complete their kickstart course...it was a well attended day, even the goannas wanted to be a part of it! A busy day was had by all as many new families were being 'shown the ropes'. Our friendly "old" members were showing the kids that being a part of HJDBC is certainly more than just about riding. The weather was warm and the track was dry but we also had wet sections from the recent rain. There was a good mixture of riding as the kids were able to circulate around the minicross track for 4 x laps at a time and then line up to get into the enduro trails. A huge thank you to this year's committee and all the current helpers for assisting today, also a special mention to Steve ‘Clicker’ assistant coach who helped out Rod with our kickstarters today. I’m sure that Steve had just as much fun as the kids did on the day! Check out some of the action shots here thanks to Steve J for taking some great photos. We have Rnd 1 Minikhana coming up next on Sunday 17th February. So we hope to see as many of our new & old members ready to Race! Go Hornsby!!! HJDBC riders had their first practice day for 2019 season at the club on Sunday 20th January.
The conditions were favourable and the track was in good shape! Our grounds were looking fantastic thanks to the hard work put in by members & parents over the last 2 working bees. We also had 9 brand new Hornsby members completing their kickstart course aswell as a number of riders doing endorsements. Congrats to all the new & existing members that have joined our club for 2019 and also congrats to the newly endorsed riders. We are excited to have you as part of the HJDBC family & look forward to seeing you all in action again over the next coming months. We have a big year ahead with heaps of riding planned. Hornsby will be hosting the first round of the ‘Minikhana Interclubs’ scheduled in March AND our club will also be hosting the ‘Minikhana State Cup’ later in the year. In the meantime lets get practising and judging by the riding from the weekend we are off to a great start! Click here to see some of the action shots! We have another practice/kickstart day planned for 3rd February. 2019 Here we come!!!! Go Hornsby! Last Sunday saw the final round of the year at the HJDBC. Unfortunately Round 3 was cancelled due to the wet weather, however, 34 keen riders showed up to finish the series off in a big way. The weather was perfect for all involved, including the mosquitos, and allowed for a seamless days competition. We began the day with the Annual General Meeting seeing a new committee elected for 2019. A huge job well done to the current committee for their teamwork and dedication and a BIG welcome to the new members that have joined the committee for the upcoming 2019 season. With the AGM all completed by 9.45am, our riders were super keen to get going and immediately began competition when given the go ahead. Each group battled it out in ring return, orange, slow, bending, footed clover and accelerate and brake in the morning session. With the cancellation of round 3, each rider was keen to accumulate as many points as possible. We also had 7 eager young nippers riding today including 3 brand new members which was great to see. By 11.30am all riders had completed the roped events and we were ready to get their sighting laps of the MX track but not before a quick watering of the track with the old trusty watering trailer. Thanks to Kev & Luke to help make this happen. With such a busy morning of riding most were keen to get back to the clubhouse to enjoy a BBQ lunch. We also had a surprise visit from one of our major sponsors at SMW who kindly donated a brand new pair of FOX riding boots to a lucky door prize winner from the club. Congratulations to rider #167 and also to rider #798 who won a raffle prize to the value of $200 which was a ride voucher at ‘Learning To Fly’ We’d like to thank Nathan @ SMW for coming along to our last event and supporting the club and also to Learning to fly for their generous support. After lunch our riders delighted in some great racing on the mini cross track. We completed 2 full motos and the racing was heart stopping to say the least with plenty of excitement right through to the very last race of the year. It’s was a great way to finish and it’s always great to see just how far our riders have come in the space of 12 months. With the racing all done and dusted for another year it was time for the traditional ‘Lap of Honour’ by our 2018 graduating rider #224 Dom who will not be returning in 2019. Good luck in your future riding career Dom as I know you have been a great example for our younger riders which is what our club is all about. Check out all the action shots here! Thanks to Jo McCarthy for the photos. Podiums for the day were: Nippers - Carl #214, Harper #93, Lorenzo #611, Tate #25, Hudson #100, Tyla & Ryder #823
50cc Auto - 1st Sienna #32 Miniwheels - 1st Jordan #751 65cc - 1st Lucy #34 85cc - 1st Declan #91, and Junior Big Wheels - 1st Kye #04 A huge thank you to all committee members and marshals who assisted in the smooth running of the day. We look forward to seeing you all at the next event which will be a half day riding at the club followed by our end of year trophy presentation. See the website and facebook page for start times. Go Hornsby! Penrith was host to the 6th and final Minikhana Interclub rounds for 2018 with the final ‘Minikhana Cup’ to be held at Sutherland in mid October. This was the last points opportunity before riders battle it out once again for the end of year finale! Hornsby put in another great attendance with 20 of our riders turning up to compete against the 6 other NSW Minikhana clubs. There was some outstanding riding accross all classes from our regular riders through to our newer members for 2018. We had a number of Hornsby riders showing some real grit & determination. Here are the podium places: #32 - 3rd 50cc C grade #751 - 1st Miniwheels A grade #11 - 3rd Miniwheels A grade #150 - 1st 65cc C grade #91 - 3rd 85cc B grade #191 - 1st JBW C grade #414 - 2nd JBW C grade #04 - 1st JBW B grade #224 - 2nd JBW B grade Well done to all our riders for attending and to all the parents & friends that helped out with marshalling. Hornsby finished the day in second position which is a fantastic effort for our little club and we hope to continue our winning ways through to the Minikhana cup in late October.
Go Hornsby! The next event is Working Bee at the club on the 13th September followed by Rnd 3 Minikhana on Sunday 14th October. We’re looking forward to seeing plenty of Hornsby members show up for both days if possible. Go Hornsby! Fun was the word of the day on Sunday the 26th of August as JT members joined the Hornsby members for some fun motocross laps at the Hornsby track.
31 riders were surprised with better track conditions after a spot of rain dampened the Hornsby track ever so slightly through the week. Almost all classes had a mix of JT and Hornsby riders and had a great opportunity for some motocross practice and enjoyment without the pressure of points. Some great sportsmanship was shown on the day. Almost 3 rounds were done by lunchtime. After a quick bite to eat and watering of some sandy parts of the track and riding was back underway. A 'Thor' pack of goodies was raffled off at lunchtime. Well done to rider 32 who was the lucky winner this week. Another 3 rounds were squeezed into the afternoon. The kids loved the extra riding time today. Click here to see all the action shots of the day...Thanks Rod Lawson for the awesome shots. Only a week after Round 1 of Series 2 and we were back at the track on Sunday 5th August for Round 2. We had 35 eager riders which was great for competition this week and kept the volunteers & marshals busy!
Track conditions were going to be dry and dusty with no rain in sight. We had 7 events planned for the day and they included: Bending, Ring Return, Slow, Accel & Brake, Figure 8, Non-Footed Clover & Minicross. Some looping ‘Practice’ was also thrown in for good measure to try and keep those skills ready for the end of year state titles. A record number of bacon and egg rolls were consumed in the morning while bikes were scrutineered and raffle tickets sold. The meat raffle was almost as competitive as the riding! Events were underway by 9.30am on the dot as competitors were ready to start their bikes, but not before the all-important riders briefing. We were able to get some much needed moisture onto the event areas again thanks to our trusty watering crew but the conditions were still very tough with large ruts forming very quickly. Some riders were able to take advantage of the ruts while others struggled to find their groove. The 65cc class was again the largest group with 10 bikes closely followed by Miniwheels with 7 bikes. Riders in each group are now starting to find their main rivals however with 2 rounds still to go anything could happen as far as points go. The results for the day: Nippers - Carl #214, Harper #93, Lorenzo #611, 50cc Auto - 1st Sienna #32 Miniwheels - 1st Jordan #751 65cc - 1st Sam #150 85cc - 1st Declan #91, and Junior Big Wheels - 1st Dom #224 Thanks again to all the parents & friends, family that helped out on the day!
