With the blink of an eye we are already past halfway of our riding season for 2018 and although the conditions have been extremely dry around most parts of the state we were again blessed with great weather as our members prepared to have some fun in the sun on their dirt bikes at the Hornsby Club again!
With Series 1 done & dusted, it was time to clear the slate and reset for Series 2. Being the start of a new series, this gave our new members a chance to go head to head & battle it out for points against some of our more experienced riders and also allowed some riders that missed out in Series 1 the opportunity to come back and kick some butt! In total we had 33 riders attend the day’s competition with good numbers in each class. 65cc had the largest group with 10 riders & 85cc SW was the smallest group with only 2 x riders battling it out for points. Our events included Orange, Bending, Ring Return, Footed Clover, Figure 8, Slow & Minicross. At this stage of the year it’s clear to see how far our riders have come, especially those that have been able to attend all the interclub rounds. The skill levels have most certainly improved which was clearly evident during the roped events and there were a lot less black flags being waved which was great for our riders & our club. After our regular lunchtime BBQ feast, it was time to hit the minicross track for the afternoon. We were lucky enough to get some much needed water sprinkled on the track using our trusty old watering trailer which was towed around the track by Luke. This was enough to atleast settle the dust for a short period and helped get racing underway! There was great entertainment all round...from the nippers testing AND finding their limits around the track to seeing the Junior Big wheels battling it out with some very close racing. The afternoon had it all. Congratulations to all our riders as the day was wrapped up with the raffle prize being drawn and the podium winners being awarded their medals. The results for the day: Nippers - Carl #214, Harper #93, Lorenzo #611, Cooper #18 50cc Auto - 1st Sienna #32 Miniwheels - Equal 1st Nathan #11 & Jordan #751 65cc - 1st Beau #98 85cc - 1st Declan #91, and Junior Big Wheels - 1st Max #255 Thankyou to all the parents, family & friends that helped marshal, cook, rake...change spark plugs...you name it! without out all your hard work a day like this would not be possible! ...Check out some action shots here! If you have any photos or videos from the day that you would like to include please make contact with us and we will add them to the collection. Our next event is on this Sunday 5th August...Minikhana Rnd 2. After such a great start to Series 2, I’m sure riders will again be keen to pick up from where they left off and continue to score some solid points to add to that championship tally. We look forward to see you all there again next Sunday. Go Hornsby! ![]() Sunday 1st July was the final round of our Series 1 championship and the day was shaping up to be a beauty as we had fine weather forecast for the day and the track was still in great shape after the recent rain during the week. With so many different round winners so far, today was all about consistency for those who were fighting out the final podium positions in the club championship. We had 24 riders attend the day with great anticipation and they were eager to practise events for the upcoming Blacktown interclub, chase points for Series 1 and also have fun with their mates. Who doesn't love a meat raffle? Today we also had a fabulous prize on offer which was a generous tray of snags, chops, steaks, roast & rissoles all up for grabs in a club raffle. This was the beginning of our fundraising effort to purchase our very own Bobcat for track maintenance. With all the mornings jobs done including buying tickets for the meat raffle, riders were briefed and headed out into 4 groups competing in events with quite a level playing field in all classes. Events held in the morning included Orange, Bending, Ring Return, Figure 8, Accelerate & Brake and Non Footing Clover. Most riders placed throughout the day leaving the podium winners a mystery for the afternoon. The groups ran so smoothly there was time for siting laps before lunch. The afternoon was left for some heart stopping mini cross. I don't think there were two heats alike. Winners changed each race and a great show was put on for the spectators. The long awaited raffle was drawn at the end of the day and presentation was completed. Congratulations to the following winners The results for the day: Nippers - Carl #214 & Harper #93 50cc Auto - 1st Sienna #32 Miniwheels - 1st Nathan #11 65cc - 1st Beau #98 85cc - 1st Declan #91, and Junior Big Wheels - 1st Dom #224 Thanks to all our parents & friends for the hard work...from cooking the BBQ to marshalling out in the cold...every single bit helps! ...Check out some action shots here! If you have any photos or videos from the day that you would like to include please make contact with us and we will add them to the collection. Next up we have the Blacktown Minikhana Interclub on Sunday 22nd July which will be held at the Ian Packer Junior Motorcycle Training Complex at Horsley Park. With low temperatures forecast for the day it wasn’t enough to stop our riders, we even welcomed some new Hornsby members today which have not even ridden at a club level before. Well done for starting your riding at an interclub and we hope you continue to enjoy the fun and excitement of Minikhana! The well organised day meant a punctual start with riders signed on and bikes scrutineered ready for riders briefing and then events were underway. We had a total of 7 events scheduled for the day which included Non Footing Clover, Figure 8, Bending, Ring Return, Orange, Slow and Mini Cross The track conditions were good however something that seemed to be catching a few of riders out was the slightly ‘grippy’ conditions of the soil. In some of the event areas the surface was damp but very ‘tacky’ which meant riders were finding it difficult to spin around the witches hats as easily as they normally do. Some of the events were completed by all 15 classes before lunch which meant an easy afternoon for some of the marshals. Our nippers were provided with a variety of riding with dedicated tracks and courses set out to keep them entertained all day and they also got to practice on some of the event areas which were cleared after lunch. The day finished with most of the riders cheering on the 85 big wheel A grade riders race on the mini cross track. It was great to see the young riders looking up to their peers for inspiration and motivation. There were a number of Hornsby riders who featured on the podium and plenty of other riders taking home medals but most importantly...Congratulations to all our members that attended the event! Below are the riders who finished the day on the podium. Check out some action shots here. #04 - 1st JBW C grade #224 - 2nd JBW C grade #61 - 2nd 85cc C grade #98 - 3rd 65cc B grade #751 - 3rd Miniwheels A grade #204 - 2nd Miniwheels C grade This weekend there is a practise day at our club on Sunday 24th. gates open will open at 8am. We will be practising as many minikhana events as possible aswell as laps around the minicross track. So come along and practice those skills or just ride with your mates. We hope to see as many of you there as possible! Go Hornsby! Today was no ordinary practice day at the Hornsby Junior Dirtbike Club as we were treated to a very special guest appearance by Jesse Madden & Kane Fischer from KSF ECSTAR SUZUKI Racing Team.
Both Riders took time out of their busy schedule to chat with our members and give them an insight as to what it’s like to be riding at the top level in our sport. The kids were also lucky enough to complete a few practice laps around the minicross track with the Suzuki riders as both Jesse & Kane took turns at leading the groups out on a specially prepared Suzuki RMZ 250 practice bike. After the practice session was finished we were all treated to some ‘Hot Laps’ as both riders proceeded to ‘shred’ the minicross track in an effort to ‘out do’ each other on the stopwatch. Our members were in awe as they witness some amazing riding skills by both riders. The fun didn’t stop there, it was now time for some of our Hornsby riders to go head to head with the Suzuki boys in a demonstration of ‘Ring Return and Orange’...we had some very close heats but in the end it was all good fun and you can check out some of the pics & video’s from the day here. A very big thankyou goes out to Scott who is the team owner and the boys Jesse & Kane for coming out and treating us to a day our members we will never forget and hopefully we can get you guys to visit our club again in the future. Go KSF! & Go Hornsby! ![]() “Isn't it a lovely sunny day for the Hornsby Regional” said no one ever! On Sunday 29th May the heavens opened up once again for the Hornsby Interclub which was held as usual at the JT club at Gwandalan. Over 180 riders braved the muddy conditions to compete in the planned events for the day. With an early start, bikes were scrutineered, riders were signed on and goggles were wiped (and wiped and wiped)! After riders briefing the eager riders were led to their event areas and began to negotiate the slippery conditions. There were some close heats and in most classes with only winners going through to the semis and finals riders had to be at their best! Events included, looping, orange, slow, ring return, non-footing clover, accler8 and mini cross. 65cc ‘C’ grade had the largest group with 27 riders and the smallest group was 50cc A grade & 85cc A grade with both only having 4 riders The nippers were well catered for during the first half of the day as they were able to enjoy a combination of enduro and minikhana events as they split into 2 main groups. The enduro track consisted of a specially marked 1 way loop that had a range of obstacles which were challenging and fun for most riders. They also were given use of an entire event area to practise their skills around the witch hats. After lunch they were also treated to exclusive use of the small minicross which allowed them to fill their appetites for some motocross. I think it was safe to say that the nippers had a pretty big day! The raffle was drawn throughout the day with the largest prizes being drawn at the end of the day and keeping everyone in suspense. Thanks again to all our sponsors as this day would not be possible without your help. Congratulations to the podium winners for the day and to all riders. Also Congratulations to Hornsby for coming 3rd out of the 7 clubs. For the full list of results click here. The Hornsby winners are: Charlie #23 - 1st 50cc - B Grade Nathan #11 - 1st Miniwheels - C Grade Jacob #19 - 3rd Miniwheels - C Grade Jordan #751 - 1st Miniwheels - B Grade Keenan #602 - 2nd 85cc SW - C Grade Byron # 61 - 3rd 85cc SW - C Grade Max #255 - 1st JBW - C Grade Dom #224 - 3rd JBW - C Grade A huge effort was put in by our small club. It was a great team effort from the entire committee and members to organize the day! Also, thanks to JT members for helping set up on the Saturday and for also allowing us to ride at their fantastic club. Parents were rewarded with some amazing washing at the end of the day! Check out some cool action shots here courtesy of Julianne at Totem Design who was also one of our trophy sponsors. We have an exciting motocross practice day coming up this Sunday 6th May as we will have a visit by 2 of the ‘Ecstar’ Suzuki Team riders Jesse Madden and Kane Fischer. Make sure you come along to the club as it’s shaping up to be a day to remember. See you there Go Hornsby! ![]() What a great day of practice! We had 13 eager riders ready to hone their skills and get some final practice before our big event at our Hornsby Interclub next weekend. The conditions were great compared to the really hot weather we have been experiencing over the past couple of weeks and the track and event areas were also all in great shape. With the small group of riders for the day, we were able to stick together as one group and tackle each event area one by one. This was a great opportunity for the younger kids to see how the older more experienced kids get through some of the courses and it also gave plenty of time to run through each event without the pressure of marshals, flags, heats and finals. After a couple of hours riding we had moved through the same 6 events that will be run at our Regional next weekend and that gave us just enough time to complete some warm up laps on the minicross track before lunch. The rest of the afternoon was mainly spent on the track where our riders were split into 3 main groups. This allowed for 3 lap motos with riders whom wouldn’t normally go up against each other there was even some sibling rivalry between some of our riders but thankfully everyone rode well and left just enough room for each other without any incidents. The riders looked to be having plenty of fun and we finished the day off with 30 minutes or so back at event area 1 & 2 where riders did some intense last minute practice of Looping and Orange. All in all it was a great day of riding and good luck to all our riders who will be competing next weekend! Looking forward to seeing you there! Click here to check out some of the cool action shots courtesy of Julianne from ‘Totem Design’ Go Hornsby! A great turn out for Round 3 with 34 riders in attendance on Sunday 8th April. Once again riders were ready to tussle with their competitors for competition points as well as get in some practise for our upcoming regional event.
Our 7 nippers enjoyed a day of riding practising many of the Minikhana events as well as getting in a little Enduro for the day. They all went home with huge smiles and I am sure they, as well as their parents slept well that night! All other classes were well represented and competed in the following events: non footing clover, Alcceler8, Looping, Orange, Slow, Ring return and Minicross. The competition was strong and in many events there were fewer black flags than we have seen in the past. The skills are certainly improving! Looping was, as always, a challenge but was a good opportunity for our new riders to experience just how technical and rewarding this sport can be. Even though many of the riders black flagged on the very first turn, you could see the determination in their eyes to try and make it past the next turn. Hopefully our young riders can get in plenty of practice over the next 2 weeks and show the rest of the Minikhana clubs just how good our Hornsby riders are at the upcoming Hornsby Interclub. Some of our new members joined us for the first time today and added great value to the club. Some of our newest riders landed themselves a place on the podium too! The results for the day: 50cc Auto - 1st Charlie #23 Miniwheels - 1st Jordan #751 65cc - 1st Beau #98 85cc - 1st Keenan #602, and Junior Big Wheels - 1st Dom #224 . After all the riding and the presentation the day ended on a social note with the club putting on a spread of nibbles. This gave the adults an opportunity to chat (without the yellow vests on) and the kids some play time off the bikes. Thanks to all our parents for the hard work that goes into our competition days. From cooking the BBQ to marshalling our in the sun every single bit helps! Our president even put his body on the line as he had a stack on the Start ropes...thankfully no cameras were around for this! ...Check out some fantastic action shots here courtesy of Julianne from ‘Totem Design’. This coming Saturday 14th April we have a MX coaching day with Michel from ‘Race Pace’ If you are interested in attending this please contact Race Pace directly or click here and book your spot asap. Sunday 15th April...Minikhana practice day...Gates open at 8am. We look forward to seeing you there! Go Hornsby! ![]() Last Sunday 25th April saw the first of the 2018 Minikhana Interclub competitions get underway. The first stop on the list was the Sutherland PCYC minibike club at Lucas Heights. Although it may not have been a very pleasant smell in the air by the tip, there was a strong smell of victory amongst the 20 Hornsby riders which made the trip to compete. The new families fit right in and were welcomed by our 'old' riders and families. Sutherland had put in an outstanding effort to prepare both the minicross tracks and event areas to a premium level as they hosted 6 events for the day including footing clover, orange, bending, ring return, accelerate & brake and minicross. All riders worked hard and competed well with some close heats and most riders coming away with some places in the final. The conditions were hot and dry but the bond between the riders and their families was strong and although the Hornsby riders enjoyed meeting kids from other clubs they very much looked out for one another and the comradery between them was very obvious. Our 3 nippers, Harper, Lorenzo and Jamie were exposed to a variety of riding conditions and enjoyed lots of track time. All our parents marshalled and earned themselves a sun tan in the process. Congratulations to the following riders who finished the day on the podium. Jordan #751 - 1st Miniwheels - C Grade Beau #98 - 2nd 65cc - C Grade Kye #04 - 1st 85cc BW - C Grade Our next event is... Minikhana Series 1 - Rnd 3 on Sunday 8th April. This is shaping up to be a big day of events not only for the club championship but also for the lead up to our very own Interclub later this month. The committee would like to also invite everyone to stay around for a social afternoon after our competition has finished. This would just be for an hour or so and enjoy a beverage and some afternoon snacks. Kids can play around with each other (not on their bikes) and parents can get to know each other over a drink and some food. Hope you will all stay for our social afternoon!! See you Sunday! ...Check out some action shots from the Sutherland Regional here. Name – Sienna
