On the 29th April Hornsby Junior Dirt Bike Club will be running its Interclub event. This event takes a lot of organisation and volunteer work and is the primary revenue raising opportunity for the club this year. Today I am writing to our club community in seek of support for the club in the way of financial donations or prizes. We ask that as members of the HJDBC community you support our sponsorship drive in any way that you can, and also that you pass on our sponsorship request letter (attached, with my details) to other organisations, friends or family who may be interested in helping us.. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and look forward to seeing as many of you at our Interclub at the end of April. Please click on the 'Download File' link below for our sponsorship letter which outlines all the different sponsorship packages on offer. Regards George Severino Vice President HJDBC
The early bird catches the worm they say! Last Sunday 37 eager riders arrived at the track bright and early to hang out with their mates and have fun. As a bonus, they also got to ride for their chance at a podium place for Round 2 and gain points towards the end of year championship. The breeze made for perfect weather, unfortunately the sand flies enjoyed it too so the mozzie spray was close at hand. Lunch orders in, check. Rider sign on, check. Bike scrutineered, check. Bike fuelled, check. Riders briefing, checked. Just a normal routine for a ride morning before the events get underway. The large numbers meant that each class had a healthy group of riders which made for great competition. Every event presented different place getters which made for an exciting day. Among the riders were some new families who were riding at our friendly club for the first time. We welcome all new families and riders and hope you enjoyed your first day. Seven events were held on the day. These included; non footing clover, accelerate and brake, acceler8, ring return, bending, orange and mini cross. The morning events ran relatively smoothly apart from some healthy debates between officials regarding some of the new rule changes. The afternoon brought plenty more action with riders keen to sample the freshly groomed track prepared by Aaron from AGM Earthworks. After some sighting laps the conditions were superb with a few damp sections out of turn 4 & 5 however it didn’t take long for the ruts to appear and riders were battling the tricky sand especially in corners 2 & 3. We had some very competitive riding throughout the afternoon which was great to see and the results for the day are as follows: 50cc Auto - 1st Charlie #23 Miniwheels - 1st Jordan #751 65cc - 1st Lincoln #62 85cc - 1st Declan #91, and Junior Big Wheels - 1st Dom #224 Well done to all riders who competed on the day and thanks to all the marshals and officials with a big thanks again going out to Jeff who was our Steward for the day AND also a big thanks to our Sponsors which are greatly appreciated and help us enjoy what we do. ...Check out some action shots from the weekend here. We have a social event for parents coming up on Friday 23rd March. Keep the date free. More details to come. We have a practice day coming up on the 18th March followed by Championship Rnd 3 on Sunday 8th April...Gates open at 8am. We look forward to seeing you there! Go Hornsby! The 2018 season kicked off in fine form with a number of new families joining the HJDBC family over the new years break. Our new member co ordinator has been inundated with kickstart applications and we are now running our 3rd kickstart course for the year with one more scheduled next month. All of this is great news for the club as we did farewell a number of riders last year as they moved onto other forms of racing. We also have a new enthusiastic committee who are all ready to help out in 2018 which is also great for the club. Our day kicked off with approx 30 riders ready to challenge themselves and get back into the regular groove of competition. With the bacon sizzling away in the background, parents and kids all went about the usual morning routines and started queuing up for riders ‘sign on’ & all bikes were lined up as scruitineering commenced at 8.30am followed by riders briefing at 9.15am. This year welcomes a number of new riders across all classes with 65cc hosting the biggest number of the day with a total of 10 and other groups not far behind however 50cc was our smallest group today with a total of 3 riders. After riders briefing, the groups were allocated their events for the day and marshals were given a quick run down of the rules for each event. The conditions were pleasant in the morning with a nice cloud cover and a light sprinkling of rain the night before but unfortunately it wasn’t to last as the the cloud cover went away and the temperature started to climb. Some great riding was displayed throughout the morning along with some struggles here and there that is to be expected with a number of riders trying to come to grips with the dry sandy conditions and also those that have stepped up to bigger bikes. So far things were running smoothly with 6 x events completed by 11.30am which allowed enough time for riders to have a quick stop at the pits to re-hydrate and then complete 2 x sighting laps of the Minicross track all before 12pm. The canteen was once again cooking up a storm with BBQ snags and burgers on offer, thanks to all the hard work put in by our canteen staff. After a well earn’t break riders were once again keen to get back out on track and get the afternoon minicross session underway and it was our demo riders Harper & Katie leading the charge followed by the rest of the gang. We had 2 x action packed motos with some very tight racing and the results for the day are as follows: 50cc Auto - 1st Charlie #23 Miniwheels - 1st Jacob #19 65cc - 1st Ben #580 85cc - 1st Declan #91, and Junior Big Wheels - 1st Max #255 Well done to all riders who competed on the day and thanks to all the marshals and officials with a special thanks to Carlie & Jeff for helping out as our Race Sec & Steward for the day. Check out some action shots here. Our next competition round is on 4th March...we look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. Gates open at 8am. Go Hornsby! Name – Alex

No school he weekend of November 17,18 & 19 saw our club travel to the Louee MX & Enduro complex once again for our annual Xmas party and end of year presentation. With the 2017 season coming to a close this is always a great trip for our members to enjoy 3 days of un-interupted riding with the friends and family and not have to worry about the competition side of things for a while. As usual there was another good turn out of people this year as the Hornsby club had most of the accommodation booked out for the entire weekend. The campsite was looking busy as it slowly started to fill with cars & trailers and gazebos popped up out of nowhere. Some even took advantage of the time off and travelled up on Thursday night to make sure they could get the maximum amount of riding in for the weekend. The conditions were favourable on Friday with all MX tracks in great condition, our riders were sampling everything that Louee has to offer and rode non-stop until they ran out fo fuel or....By the afternoon we had some thunderstorms roll in which helped cool things down after quite a hot day. Saturday was looking to be a completey different story as we had steady rain set in from approx 5.30 am onwards. This didn’t stop any of our riders though, the bikes were again pulled out of the storage shed, re-fueled maybe some kids might have put on a jacket to keep dry and off they went. The track conditions were poor at best but the grins on all the faces remained and by around midday the rain had stopped and then the track started to dry which brought even more riders out. Unfortunately one of our riders Kye #04 gave us a scare with an ‘off’ on the Mt Turkey track, he was taken to hospital for check ups and fortunately given the all clear. A big thanks to Tom and his crew and the local medics for their care. We were all happy to see Kye return to the track later that evening. The presentations kicked off with a fantastic BBQ dinner which went down very well after such a physical and demanding day on the bikes. and some of the trophy presentations are as follows: The regional Minikhana Achievement awards: 1st - Sam #279 2nd - Ben #580 3rd - Jack #170 Most Improved Rider 2015: Byron #61 Overall Club Champion: 1st Beau #798 2nd Will #48 3rd Ben #580 Full Throttle Award -100% attendance and Sportsmanship: Jack #170 Beau #798 Will #48 Also a big Congrats to our Life Member inductees Jeff and Carlie and also a big thankyou to all the outgoing committee members. Your contribution over the past few years has been outstanding and we hope to follow in your footsteps and keep this great club moving forward. Congratulations to all riders and families for yet another fun and productive year for the Hornsby Club, Merry Xmas from the 2017 committee. We hope you enjoy the summer break and we look forward to seeing you all ready to rip in 2018! Check out some action shots from the weekend here...Go Hornsby! The final club championship round of 2017 was well attended with 27 riders competing for the last chance to get some series points before the club champions are presented next weekend. The weather was in our favour with a mild day, even the sand flies and mozzies came along! Before proceedings got underway there was our Annual General Meeting to get through which started at 9.00am and this was also well attended by parents and friends which was fantastic to see. There were a few changes that were proposed for next year aswell as the election of the new committee. Congratulations to the outgoing committee for their hard work and commitment this year and a big WELCOME and THANKYOU to the new committee for the upcoming 2018 season..... Now onto the riding...The 50cc’s was our largest group with 9 riders. They led the day with bending followed by orange, ring return, ring bending, footing and non footing clover and accelerate and brake. 85cc SW hustled for places with 5 riders all placing throughout the day. All other classes had 4 riders and kept the marshals' jobs easy with heat finals. The burgers and sausages, as always were well received at lunchtime and despite the late start due to the AGM we were still able to get onto the Minicross track straight after lunch and complete 2 full motos in each class. As leaders changed positions and riders finished within seconds of their team mates, there was plenty of excitement right up until the very last race of the day. While the competition side of things drew to a close for another year. There was one more last Hornsby traditional Lap of Honour by our graduating riders and an opportunity to farewell a number of other riders who will not be returning in 2018. Some families have been with our club for most 15 years. Your passion for the sport and leadership example for the younger riders has been outstanding and will be missed. Good luck in your future riding career. Indi #13 Ella #855 Ben #580 Jack R #170 Jack S #151 Will D #48 Congratulations to all who competed on the day no matter your result and good luck to all for your place in the club championship. Click here to see some of the action shots from the day. Podium winners this week are: Nippers - Harper 50cc Beau #798 65cc Ben #580 Mini Wheels Kye #04 85cc SW Sam #279 85cc BW Will #48 Next weekend we have our annual Xmas party and club presentation at Louee Motocross and Enduro Complex. Hopefully the weather gods will be kind and we can all enjoy a great weekend to cap off another fun and exciting year at Hornsby Junior Dirt Bike club. The 2017 Minikhana State Titles were held on the weekend of October 21/22nd at the Nepean Raceway home of the Penrith Minibike Club with 7 events being held on Saturday and 5 more on Sunday. Hornsby were not only well represented but came away with great results. Overall Hornsby was represented by 22 riders and took home 19 first place medals, 27 second place medals and 19 third place medals with some riders finding themselves on the podium (see below) and two of our riders earning themselves a place on the podium as state title runners up. Well done Kye #04 who took out third place in the state in Miniwheels and Will #48 who took out second place in the state in BW85. The track was very wet in sections after heavy rainfall on Friday leading up to the event. This resulted in some challenging and interesting events first up, sometimes the lane you were drawn determined how many boggy puddles you needed to negotiate. Looping is challenging at the best of times but in the muddy conditions on Saturday there were no medals across all clubs in this event this year. Start and Park is an event the Hornsby riders are not used to and this was also run on Saturday. This event involves riders leaving their bikes and running to the finish. It was good entertainment for the spectators and some of our riders placed in this event which was a nice surprise. The other 5 events for the day included ring bending, accelerate and brake, mini cross, footing clover and slow. The events kept everyone busy for the day, including all our wonderful marshalls. The kids and parents gathered for a BBQ lunch before completing more events in the afternoon. As well as the debriefing about their events the kids were entertained with goats and ‘Fred’ the donkey on one side of the fence and the flat track riders on the other. By Sunday morning the track had dried out and the need for gumboots had eased. Five more events were run including; non footing clover, orange, ring return, bending and acceler8. The A grade 85 riders finished the day with their mini cross event and all riders and parents watched and cheered on as riders tussled for their place in the race. There was a lot of passing and some very impressive riding from all 85 riders which created a fun afternoon for all. What was most special about watching was that ALL kids were cheering on their own club riders but also supporting and encouraging riders from the other clubs. To see young riders giving their senior riders high fives and looking up to them was a great way to end the day. What would an interclub be without a raffle? The weekend was wrapped up with the presentation and raffle. Rider #151 Jack not only placed in the series (see below) but also took out half the raffle prizes! Whether placing in the top three for the day or just experiencing an interclub in a new grade, all our riders came away with a smile and some only missing out on a podium place by a few points. The State Titles were without a doubt a successful experience and overall the Hornsby club finished up in 5th position which was a great effort! Check out some action shots here! The results for the day include: B Grade 50cc - Lincoln #62 - 2nd B Grade 65cc - Jack # 170 - 3rd C Grade 85cc SW - Declan #91 - 2nd C Grade 85cc BW - Max #255 - 1st A Grade MW - Kye #04 - 3rd A Grade 85cc BW - Will #48 - 2nd Series winners were: 85cc SW - Sam #279 JBW - Oliver #628, Jack #151 and Will #48 Next up on our calendar we have Rnds 2&3 of the Tri Series Minicross with JT & KMW at Gwandalan on the 4th & 5th November. Entries to this event will be posted on our website and facebook page very soon...Go Hornsby! With a little rain through the week and some very light drizzle on the day Sunday saw slightly damper track conditions greet our 25 Hornsby riders that attended Round 3 of Series 2 as they endured a whopping 11 events for the day to get them ready for the State Titles coming up next weekend. Thanks to the abundance of helpers, with all hands on deck, we completed the following events before lunch and still managed to do 2 rounds of mini cross in the afternoon; bending, ring bending, orange, looping, ring return, slow, accelerate and brake, acceler8, footing clover and non footing clover. Harper was our only nipper this week and enjoyed joining in with the big kids. Some of our riders new to 50cc Auto enjoyed the competitive level and were quoted as saying it was the "best day ever!" With such a large amount of events to get through some classes were finished ahead of others which left for some great entertainment as riders were able to sit and watch other classes battling it out on event area 1 for some crucial championship points. After lunch saw the bikes hit the track for the afternoon minicross session and it didn’t take long for any moisture that was left in the ground to dry up as riders blasted their way around the track. There were plenty of riders making the most of the conditions while other riders were caught out in the slippery sandy sections. The competition was fierce but the sportsmanship was evident and the riders enjoyed the company of their peers on and off the track. The final points for this round and the following round will be withheld from publishing and winners of the series will be announced at the presentation day held at Louee next month. Podium winners this week are: Nippers - Harper 50cc Beau #798 65cc Ben #580 Mini Wheels Jacob #19 85ccSW Sam #279 85cc BW Jack #151 A big thankyou to the parents, marshals and officials & riders for yet another great day of competition. Checkout the action shots here! We have the Minikhana State Tiles being held at Penrith next weekend on Saturday & Sunday 21st & 22nd October. Entries are still open for this event so please check the website & also facebook page for details on how to register if you haven’t already done so. We hope to see as many Hornsby riders at this event as possible...Go Hornsby! Over 50 riders endured the warm weather and dusty track last Sunday as both Kuringai Mini Wheels and HJDBC joined for the second time this year to compete in the Mini Cross event only. KMW hosted the event at the Hornsby track. The morning was warmer than usual but that didn't stop the usual morning routine of scrutineering, signing on, lunch orders in, raffle tickets bought and riders briefing. With the list ticked off the two clubs enjoyed 5 rounds of friendly rivalry with most rounds getting in 3 lap heats and finishing with a 2 lap dash at the end of the day. The track was watered down both at the beginning of the day and at lunchtime but with such little rain recently it was still a very dusty ride! Podiums for the day included: Nippers: Harper #93 2nd 50cc - Beau #798 1st MW - Kye #04 2nd MW - Lucy #34 3rd MW - Jacob #19 1st 65cc Will #693 2nd 65cc - Byron #61 3rd 65cc - Noah # 936 3rd 85cc SW - Will #693 1st 85cc BW - Will #48 1st 85cc BW - Jack #151 2nd 85cc BW - Ella #855 3rd 85cc BW - Ewan #222 Overall Podiums for the series: 1st 50cc - Beau #798 1st MW - Kye #04 2nd MW - Jacob #19 3rd MW Lucy #34 1st 65cc - Noah #936 2nd 65cc - Jack #170 3rd 65cc - Ben #580 2nd 85cc SW - Alex #24 1st 85cc BW - Ella #855 2nd 85cc BW - Jack #151 3rd 85cc BW Ewan #222 Once again a big thankyou to all that helped make the day possible, to the officials and marshals whom endured the dust all day long and to the riders for putting on another great spectacle of racing for the day both Hornsby & Kuringai. Also a big thanks to Gilly Harriott from KMW for taking the time to take these fantastic photos and for also sharing them with us. More action shots can be found here. AND finally well done Hornsby riders for taking another round win and Series win for 2017 GO HORNSBY! The next event on the calendar is Rnd 2 & 3 of the Frank Purcell Enduro with JT & KMW at Gwandalan on the 7th & 8th October. Entry to this event can be found on the home page. |
