'Go Hornsby!' We were all pleased to hear this in many of the podium presentations at the Sutherland Interclub last Sunday. All our riders' dedication and hard work paid off with the club coming third place overall in the seventh and final round of the State Minkhana series held at the Sutherland PCYC club on Sunday 17th September 2017. The day started bright and early with sign on, scrutineering and riders briefing. The morning excitement was in the surprise element in each show bag! The events got underway nice and early with a full demo class leading the pack. Well done Harper #93, our only Hornsby demo rider for this meet. The other classes slowly made their way through the six events; footing clover, accelerate and brake, ring return, orange, bending and mini cross. Great sportsmanship was always shown by the Hornsby riders. With a lunchtime breaking up the day the events were all complete by about 3.30pm with a few classes needing to go to a runoff to decide winners. The raffle and presentation completed the day with many Hornsby riders taking away a podium place, some riders for the first time at an interclub and some only missing out by a point or two. The competition was alive! Riders on the podium: 50cc C Grade 1st Charlie #23 50cc C Grade 2nd Lincoln #62 50cc A Grade 3rd Beau #798 65cc A Grade 2nd Ben #580 65cc A Grade 3rd Jack #170 MW C Grade 1st Lucy #34 MW A Grade 3rd Kye #04 85cc SW C Grade 1st Alex #24 85cc SW B Grade 3rd Sam #279 The final of the Minikhana Series for 2017 will be the State Minikhana Titles hosted by Penrith and will be at their grounds at Castlereagh on the 21st and 22nd of October. Camping will be available on the Friday and Saturday evenings. Entries are now open for this great event and can be found here and Supp Regs are also available here. Good luck to all members in the final competitions for 2017, Hornsby Junior Dirt Bike Club are proud of you! Sunday was a Happy Father's Day for all the HJDBC Dads who were able to attend Series 2, Round 2 as the sun shone for a great round. Who wouldn't want to spend Father's Day fueling bikes and changing spark plugs? The day began with coffee as usual to ensure everyone was ready for the day, bikes scrutineered, riders briefing done and two groups were formed for the morning events. The nippers, 50cc's and Mini-wheels teamed up to compete in the same event areas and the 65cc's and 85cc's worked together on other event areas. Thanks to the efficient marshaling all events; ring return, bending, orange, accler8, accelerate and brake, footing and non-footing clover were all complete before lunch which allowed time for citing laps on the mini-cross track as well. A good break was had by all at lunchtime including a special birthday celebration for our club president. Happy Birthday to Jeff. A huge thanks from all club members and riders for all you do for our club. With a much warmer day than usual riders enjoyed the extra break but were refueled on lunch (and cake) to get out and race on the track. All races were heat finals so two rounds were fit in easily for the afternoon. The dry weather also bought tough riding conditions with a dusty track making it hard for some riders to even see where they were going and a few riders stalling in the sand. There were plenty of action packed races though with each round of racing giving different results in many classes. Nippers - Harper, Keira, & Danny 50cc Beau #798 65cc Ben #580 Mini Wheels Lucy #34 85ccSW Declan #91 85cc BW Jack #151 A big thanks to the parents, marshals and officials for yet another great day. Our next event on the Calendar is Sutherland Minikhana Interclub held on Sunday 17th September. Please check the website & also facebook page for details on how to register for this event. Following that we also have the MX Twin Series with KMW coming up at our grounds on Sunday 24th September. We hope to see as many Hornsby riders at both these events as possible...Go Hornsby! Sunday saw a relaxed atmosphere down at the Hornsby club with an all day Enduro fun day. We enjoyed a slightly later start than usual however with the track already set up from the previous working bee riders were able to get riding by approx 10am. The format of the day was fairly simple with riders lining up at the start of the loop at event area 1 and then each rider set off with approx 10 - 20 sec gap intervals. We also had dads as sweep riders riding with the kids to make sure there were no fallen riders and to also help out in the tricky conditions when needed. We also had some marshals scattered throughout the bush at the cut off points to help guide the riders around the track. The loop consisted of some familiar sections of the Minicross track and some established tight single trails that have been used on past enduro days. Riders had the option to ride the full 1.4km loop or they could use the ‘cut off’ section for a much shorter loop. They also had the option to take a great little ‘new’ section of trail that was very technical in spots and then linked up to the main track. Thanks to all the parents marshals and officials who helped run the day and also a big thanks to the parents who attended the working bee the day before to help setup the course with bunting and prepare the grounds for the day. And finally thanks to the sweep riders who also helped make the day run safely, it was hard to tell who had the biggest grin on their faces, the kids or the dads!. We now have a two week break before our next round of the club championship to be held on Sunday 3rd September. Sunday 6th August was first round of Series 2 competition and yet we were blessed with another beautiful sunny day. With Series 1 done and dusted riders were now able to re-focus and start series 2 in the best possible way. There was a good contingent of riders with a total of 32 turning up on the day and we also had a couple of new members completing their kickstart training along side of the regular competition. Our events for the day included Footing and non-footing clover, Accelerate & brake, Figure 8, Slow, Bending, Looping, Ring bending and Minicross. The event areas were looking great with the previous weeks rain settling the ground nicely however ruts quickly formed which provided challenging conditions to some riders but overall the standard of riding this weekend was a good measure of the hard work and determination put in throughout the year. It was also great to see some of our newer members really getting the hang of Minikhana and also getting some good results. Results for this round are: Nippers - 4 happy riders - Harper, Keira, Sienna & Danny 50cc Beau #798 65cc Ben #580 Mini Wheels Kye #04 85ccSW Sam #279 85cc BW Will #48 Once again a big thank you to the parents, marshals and officials for yet another top days riding and keeping things running smoothly. We have our Working Bee on this Saturday followed by our Enduro fun day on Sunday. If you can spare an hour or 2 on Saturday it would be much appreciated. Following that we have the JT Regional on the 20th August, we look forward to seeing as many Hornsby members at both of these events as possible. Last Sunday the 23rd July was the Baulkham Hills Regional held at Horsley Park. The early rise made for a cold start to the day however when the sun came up it warmed us all up and melted the frost and Hornsby were ready to ride. With over 20 Hornsby riders prepped and ready to represent the HJDBC on the well-organized track which included two mini-cross tracks, one for senior riders and a smaller track for the junior riders. The events for the day included Orange, Looping, Slow, Non-Footing Clover, Acceler8, Ring Return and Mini-cross. There were approx. 180 riders in total across 7 clubs. 50 of these were nippers, the largest ever group in a Minikhana Interclubs. The marshals and parents ensure all the nippers were able to experience both Minicross, and some of the other events such as slow, orange and bending in a non-competitive environment. It was great to see so many little riders so eager to do well in this sport. Most of the groups were getting through the events smoothly however as the day went on the conditions of the track and some of the event areas began to get very dry and dusty which created some very tricky conditions for the riders to negotiate. Some of the groups had already completed most their events before lunch with only a small number of races left to finish in the second half of the day, riding was over by approx 3pm, which left enough time for the raffle to be drawn and then the final trophy presentation. Congrats to our Podium Winners Mini Wheels Kye #04 65cc Ben #580 85ccSW Sam #279 A big pat on the back to Hornsby riders Sam and Kye who will be upgraded to B and A grade for there Podiums. Well done to all those who attended and supported the Hornsby club, we would also like to thank all the members for their help in marshalling for the day and would also like to thank Baulkham Hills club on hosting yet another fantastic regional event. Check out all the action in our gallery here. A big thanks to Gilly from KMW for the fantastic photos. Coming Up this weekend: Junior Trials Frank Purcell RD 1 Enduro Series Details below - This Sunday 30/7 Online entries to this event can be found here. Sunday 2nd July was the 4th & final round of our series 1 competition with a total of 23 riders attending to gain as many points as they could to finish off before we go into series 2. Although it was also one of the coldest mornings we’ve had in a while the temperature set to heat up as there were still plenty of points on offer and a chance for riders to gain extra points toward the overall club championship. As things were beginning to thaw out, the bikes were being srutineered, the bacon and eggs rolls were cooked, the mums and dads dosed up on warm coffee and the event areas were all set up and riders briefing was underway. With all the formalities out of the way by approx 9.30am riders & marshals could make their way down to their allocated event area and racing could finally start. The event areas were in great condition which made for some really close racing. All riders and marshals were hard at work getting through the 7 events planned which included slow, orange, bending, ring bending, accelerate & brake, clover and non footing clover. Harper & Danny flew the flag for the nippers this week and they were both able to team up with the 50 autos to get a taste of what real competition is really like. Both showed great potential and growth...watch out 50ccs! Once again the near perfect conditions enabled riders to breeze through the roped events in the first part of the day allowing enough time to get 2 siting laps of the minicross track done before lunch. After another great BBQ lunch and a quick re-fuel of the bikes riders made their way down to the minicross track. To start things off the nippers were the first to test the conditions of the shorter minicross track while the rest of the groups followed on. The track was holding up well with just a few minor ruts appearing and of course the usual boggy sections towards the back end of the track. The racing was thoroughly entertaining throughout each class and well done to all riders especially for those that made the podium. Results for this round are: 50cc Beau #798 65cc Ben #580 Mini Wheels Kye #04 85ccSW Sam #279 85cc BW Brad #25 A big thank you to the parents, marshals and officials for keeping the day running so smoothly. The next event on the calendar is the Baulkham Hills Regional on the 23rd July at Horsley Park. Go Hornsby!
Sunday 14th May was the Blacktown Regional Minikhana which had been re-scheduled due to the heavy soaking of rain we had back in March. This time however the conditions were much more favourable and not unlike the Hornsby Regional there were a huge number of riders ready to test their skills once again. Approx 170 riders attended which is a huge effort by all especially since it was Mothers Day.
Hornsby had 17 riders competing on the day with 3 riders making it onto the podium: 50cc B Grade - 3rd Sean #27 85cc C Grade - 3rd Sam #279 JBW B Grade - 2nd Oli #628 Once again a big congratulations to those that made the podium and all those who attended as the competion is huge and also big congrats to all the Motomums out there that were able to attend. Sunday 7th May saw the first round of the MX twin series between HJDBC and Mt Kuringai hosted by the Hornsby club. The Hornsby grounds were looking as good as ever thanks to the previous days working bee and also the track maintenance by Aron and his trusty bobcat. To top things off we had a sprinkle of rain the night before to help settle the dust atleast for the first part of the day. After bbq breaky and riders briefing kids were ready and raring to go and enjoy some friendly rivalry out on the minicross track. The nippers got the day underway first as they tested the freshly groomed track, this was closely followed by the 50cc autos showing some great skill at the start line. Next up were the Mini-wheel racers with 5 keen competitors. Once again the largest group of the day, the 65cc's enjoyed the competitive nature of mini-cross but showed great companionship cheering each other on and sharing encouraging words on and off the track. The 85's concluded the event and as always put on a good show with their riding experience evident. Each class squeezed 5 races in for the day stopping for another bbq at lunchtime (Thanks again to the chefs!). With 3 lap heats and sandy conditions the racing was kept very close and a number of riders got caught out as the track conditions were constantly changing. All in all it was an action packed day and great entertainment for the spectators. Hornsby riders were good enough to accumulate enough points to win outright on the day. Let’s see if we can keep the momentum going for Rnd 2 which is coming up later in September. Presentations followed and the following Hornsby riders made it onto the podium: Nippers: Sienna, Summer, Danny, 1st 50cc Auto – Beau #798 3rd 50cc Auto – Charlie #23 1st Miniwheels – Kai #04 2nd Miniwheels – Jacob #19 3rd Miniwheels – Lucy #34 1st 65cc - Noah #936 2nd 65cc – Jack #170 3rd 65cc – Ben #580 2nd 85cc SW – Liam #86 3rd 85cc SW – Sam #279 1st 85cc BW - Ella #855 2nd 85cc BW – Brad #25 3rd 85cc BW – Oliver #628 As always a day like this doesn't just happen. Lots of hard work from the Hornsby club committee members went into preparing the day and this was evident by the success of the day. Also a special thanks to all our key officials on the day as well as all marshalls and parents for making the day a success. Details for our next event are Blacktown Regional Sunday 14th May…..Check Out the action pics HERE! |
