With a beautifully prepared track, riders and parents gathered on Sunday for the keenly awaited Enduro Day at the Hornsby Club grounds. The day kicked off with riders briefing and then some sighting laps.
Riders had the choice of a 2km loop which also had a cut off section for nippers. The track mainly consisted of single track that linked up with sections of the MX track. This provided a variety of terrain and obstacles for the riders to negotiate and practice their enduro skills. Plenty of fun had by all including the sweep riders. Thankyou to all who made this great day possible including the marshals, parents, officials and thankyou to members who attended the working bee to set up the course with bunting and prepare the grounds for the day. Everyone knows that Motorcycling is Dangerous. Every ride day during riders briefing, the Clerk of Course stands up in front of all riders and parents and talks about how "Motorcycling is Dangerous, you and your machine may get damaged or worse...", but does everyone understand the importance of this statement.
A number of Hornsby members have this year suffered broken bones during their various competitions and have subsequently had time off from riding whilst they go through the healing process. A local youth group has been studying the importance of youth safety in sports and wanted to share an article with us about bone fractures which you can view here. The article is very interesting and contains some great information about the different types of bone fractures and healing processes. This is a timely reminder to encourage your riders to wear the appropriate armour at all times, even if your rider says "I'm only going slow" or "it's only minikhana". The link to this article is also on the links page available through the button "The Ouch Factor!". A beautiful sunny day, that turned some what windy, greeted 13 Hornsby riders when Baulkham Hills Club presented their 2015 Minikhana Interclub regional event.
Seven events would be conducted over the day which got underway as close to on time as possible. A total of approx. 110 riders attended the event from seven clubs, with Baulkham Hills showing quite a presence in their new club jersey colours and design. Hornsby members, however, demonstrated some great riding to place highly in most events with some unfortunate draws, seeing a number of members face off against each other in the heat, only to have one knocked out of the final. Never the less, Hornsby members who rode brilliantly on the day and made it onto the podium were as follows: 3rd 50cc Auto A Grade - Ben #580 3rd Miniwheel A Grade - Mateo #31 2nd Miniwheel A Grade - Ethan #38 1st 65cc C Grade - Nick #17 3rd 65cc B Grade - Jack #15 1st 85cc Small Wheel C Grade- James #22 2nd 85cc Big Wheel B Grade - Jassie #222 2nd 85cc Big Wheel A Grade - Matt #262 Those results were enough to put Hornsby into 4th place overall out of the Seven clubs that competed, so well done to all members for your fantastic riding on the day. Our annual Enduro Day at the club will be held this weekend coming, Sunday 2nd August. Gates will open from the normal time, 8am and is a day not to be missed. Bring plenty of fuel and an appetite for some fun, challenging riding, covering most parts of our complex. A working bee will be happening on Saturday 1st August to help set the course and tidy any loose ends up for the Enduro Day so please come along and help out. The second and final round of the 2015 Minicross Interclub competition between Hornsby and Ku-Ring-Gai (KMW) took place at the Hornsby grounds on Sunday 21st June. A partly cloudy day with a few light drizzle patches threatened early in the morning but too many smiles from riders kept any heavy showers at bay.
The previous day, the track had been groomed and was looking in some of the best condition it has for a number of years. Heavier rain in the middle of the week leading up to the event had left parts of the track muddy and slippery but for the most part it was sandy and fast. After a thorough riders briefing, the practice session got underway and the riders got their first look at the track. Not long after, some nice clean racing was underway with the first results funnelling in to the scorer. This series was contested over two days, with the first day being conducted at KMW's grounds earlier in the year and the second one at our Hornsby grounds. KMW have some great tracks that are in seperate areas of their compound unlike Hornsby's, which prevented as many races being run compared to KMW's day. None the less, riders got six races in with minimal disruptions and finished up around 3pm. Presentations followed and the following Hornsby riders made it onto the podium: 3rd 50cc Auto - Ben #580 1st 50cc Auto - Will #693 3rd Miniwheels - Jack #26 1st Miniwheels - Declan #91 =3rd 65cc - Noah #936, Jack #15 3rd 85cc SW - Ella #855 3rd 85cc BW - Jassie #222 1st 85cc BW - Matt #262 Unfortunately due to the overall series points score that wasn't quite enough for Hornsby to take out the series, that honour went to Ku-Ring-Gai Miniwheels Club. Congratulations to all their riders for riding so well and taking them to the overall win. We look forward to continuing the rivalry next year. Special thanks to all our key officials on the day as well as all marshall's and parents for making the day a success. We have a small mid year break at the club now during the school holidays but are planning a coaching day in early July before round 5 of the club championship mid way through July. Please keep checking back for details of scheduled meets. 13 Proud Hornsby members represented our club on Sunday 14th June, when they entered into the fourth Regional event of the year at the Ku-Ring-Gai Miniwheels (KMW) Training Club, St Ives Showgrounds.
KMW always run a different regional to the rest of the remaining clubs in the series, by conducting a trials event rather than minikhana. For those of you that do not know what this entails, basically riders contest a series of small, natural terrain courses, testing rider and bike skill. The aim of the event is to transverse the natural features of the small set course without putting your foot down or dropping your bike. 'Demerit Points' are awarded for every time a rider 'foots' or 'leans' on something to stabilise themselves and the bike. The rider in their class with the least amount of demerit points wins. It can be a very challenging type of riding, especially for those riders that are starting out in the sport and are yet to develop the skill's needed to control their bike over undulating terrain. However, out of the 13 riders that attended, the following riders rode well enough to make it onto the podium: 2nd 50cc Auto A Grade: Ben #580 2nd Miniwheels C Grade: Ryan #90 3rd 85cc SW B Grade: Ella #855 1st 85cc SW B Grade: Indy #13 The Hornsby club snatched 4th overall for the day showing the consistency and talent of our wonderful little club. Well done to all of those that attended and for supporting KMW in their quest to keep their grounds and provide somewhere for their riders to continue developing their motorbike skills. This weekend, Sunday 21st June, will see the final round of the Bi-Series Minicross competition between Hornsby and KMW clubs at our home grounds. Parking will be tight so please follow directions from officials on the day for parking allocation and don't be afraid to squeeze up. The day will consist of rounds of Minicross all day long, so if you like racing around our motocross track, this event is for you. Regis Chilli nights and beautiful sunny days, brought together a number of club members as they travelled into the Blue Mountains for the June Long Weekend. With overnight temps getting down to -1, the camp fire was the place to be to swap stories and share ideas for the following day. Icy frosts greeted riders in the morning as they awoke from their previous days riding slumber, only to bare the nip in the air over a bacon and egg roll as preparation got under way for the next days riding. Approx. 30 members spent the weekend exploring the numerous trails in the beautiful mountains south of Oberon, or ripped it up on the two moto cross tracks. A grass/rut track tested skills of the more experienced riders, as did the ski jump for the more adventurous. Whatever your forte, most people spent the days with a smile on their face, albeit hidden by helmet and goggles, to emerge unscathed and happy with their efforts over the 3 day weekend. Photo's from the weekend can be found in our gallery. Follow the link on the gallery page here to check out the action. Thanks to our own member and proud Dad, Peter Pezzuto, Hornsby Junior Dirtbike Club has brought their club logo into the 21st Century. Peter has worked some magic on our old logo, adding some flare and brilliance into the old set of chequered flags. Peter was very passionate about this project and the results speak for themselves. Thanks Pete for your hard work, I'm sure everyone agrees it looks great!
With not having ridden at the club for a number of weeks and intermittent rain over that time, the club grounds were in great conditions ready for round 4 of the 2015 club championship. Despite some overnight rain and some drizzle during the early morning proceedings, event areas were quite grippy with little or no standing water to challenge riders.
31 riders began the day, all looking to have a great day of riding and add to their points score for the year. Six events were run that included Accelerate Brake, Footing and Non-Footing Clover, Slow, Looping and Ring Bending. The 85cc class were able to spend some time on the trials section of the complex just prior to lunch, testing their skills in the sandy and hilly sections of that track. In addition, two rounds of minicross were contested in the afternoon after the lunch time break. This is where all the action happened. The second round of the minicross brought about a couple of red flags with some riders finding the day a little testing as competition came to a close. A couple of spectacular offs occurring right at the start/finish line and in front of the spectators left some riders feeling a little worse for wear and finding themselves spending some time with first aid. None the less, all riders had a great day albeit in quite cool, overcast conditions. Results were held over for ratification and will be announced at the next club points day to be held on Sunday July 12th. We wish all club members a safe and happy June long weekend and for those travelling to the Lochmaree Motorbike Complex in the Blue Mountains, a warm long weekend also. |
