Sunny skies and a very chilli morning greeted competitors for round three of the 2015 Minikhana Regional Interclub series at Penrith Minibike Club, Sunday 24th May. A small contingent of Hornsby rider's flew the flag for the club at this event, which produced some great riding in tricky muddy conditions. Days before the event, Penrith received about three inches of rain, which made the event areas a mixed bag of grippy sand or boggy mud.
Consistent riding would place riders in the points but mistakes would prove costly and dirty. Nine riders from the Hornsby club across most grades represented a broad range of skill and bike sizes. Penrith is known for running events that are different to most regionals including the Acceler8 and Start and Park events. These events require not just bike skill but athletic ability also, sometimes fun to watch for spectators as riders try to run as fast as possible in full riding gear. At the end of the day, Hornsby congratulated the following riders for their podium positions: 50cc A Grade - 1st Will #693 Miniwheel A Grade - 1st Mateo #31 85cc SW C Grade - 2nd Ella #855 JBW A Grade - 1st Matt #262 Hornsby would also like to congratulate the following riders for their performances at previous regional events that promoted them up a grade: Indy #13, Noah #936, Sean #355 and Callie #19. We look forward to seeing you all with new coloured number plates at the next regional. Overall for the day Hornsby came 4th out of the seven clubs, which is a great effort with only a few riders attending the day. Hornsby would also like to thank all the members for their help in marshalling for the day and helping Penrith Club on their day which was conducted in lovely Autumn Weather. The next Regional event is scheduled for June 14 which is the Ku-Ring-Gai Miniwheels club regional. This may unfortunately be the last regional for the KMW club at their current club grounds, so please attend if you can. Keep an eye out on the links page for their supplementary regulations. Also please remember to show your support for the KMW club this Tuesday at the Council Chambers in Gordon at 7pm. The hearing will decide the club's fate in regards to their club grounds, all support would be greatly appreciated. NSW had received some of it's heaviest falls of rain and some of its wildest weather in a decade leading up to our Hornsby Regional event. The Central Coast was some of the worst hit area's and the Junior Trials grounds received quite a lot of damage from torrential rain and strong winds. To the credit of the JT committee and members, the grounds had been cleaned up and made presentable for Hornsby to conduct their regional event.
Hornsby would like to extend a humungous Thank You to the JT club, committee and members for doing such an unreal job, helping to make our Regional event as good as it was. With approx. 143 riders entered and the threat of more weather to come over the preceding days leading up to the event, Hornsby was always a bit nervous about the conditions. However, the decision to run the event was made and 131 riders turned up to start competition. With seven events planned, it was going to be a busy day for both competitors and officials. After a successful scrutineering and riders briefing, events got underway in quite tricky muddy and slippery conditions. The gods began to smile early in the day though as the showers eased off and the grounds began to dry out. This made the conditions tricky as the mud turned to tacky dirt providing inconsistent riding conditions. Riders showed their skill though and worked bike and body hard to complete events with no fouls. Most grades had the required number of riders with some having to combine or move up to meet the minimum requirements. 50cc C Grade did not dissapoint though with as many as 20 riders entered to compete in the event. As the pit marshals worked tirelessly through the morning, by the lunch time break most grades had completed over 50% of their events. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise as the weather took a turn for the worse in the early afternoon with the heavens opening up and changing the conditions of the event areas once again. None the less, competition finally came to an end around mid afternoon with seven gruelling events completed and many wet smiles adorning the presentation area, all keen to find out how they had finished the tough day. As the raffle was drawn, attention turned to the podium where riders, families and supporters would find out the final results. Overall the Hornsby Club finished 2nd behind the JT club who had the biggest contingent of riders out of all seven clubs. Hornsby riders that found themselves on the podium were as follows: 50cc C Grade: 1st Callie #19 50cc A Grade: 3rd Ben #580 50cc A Grade: 1st Will #693 Mini wheels C Grade: 2nd Sean #355 Mini wheels B Grade: 3rd Declan #9 65cc B Grade: 2nd Jack #151 65cc B Grade: 1st Noah #936 85cc Small Wheel C Grade: 1st Indy #13 JBW A Grade: 3rd Brock #136 JBW A Grade: 2nd Matt #262 JBW A Grade: 1st Mat #259 Well done to all Hornsby riders for your outstanding achievement in very challenging conditions and a very big thank you to all Hornsby Members for your help and commitment to run another superb regional event. Without the dedication and input from all involved, our Regional Event would never be a success. Hornsby JDBC would like to thank all of our sponsors for their ongoing and valuable support of the club. The next event on our calendar will be coming up in a week when round two of the Hornsby, KMW and JT Tri-Series MX is held at the JT grounds again on the central coast. Consult the JT website here for more details. The Penrith Regional Minikhana event will be held on Sunday 24th May and their supp regs and entry form can be found here. Enter now to receive the early bird entry fee. Sunny skies, moderate temperatures and impeccably prepared grounds and event areas greeted riders for the first round of the Regional Minikhana Series for 2015 at Horsley Park.
Blacktown members should be proud of the preparation of the grounds for the inaugural round of the 2015 series, providing clean and well groomed event areas that produced some great racing. 15 Hornsby Members competed on the day in all classes, with some great results. As the day progressed, so did the medal tally as delighted riders arrived back from events with smiles and stories to share and compare. Occasional frowns were to be seen at times but were generally few and far between. Some high cloud cover developed later in the day bringing the temperature back down but did not stop the fierce competition. As we came to the close of the day, final points were tallied and left the Hornsby Club in 4th position overall. Helping us to that position on the Club Leaderboard were the following results: 50cc B grade: Ben #50 - 1st 50cc A grade: Will #693 - 2nd Miniwheel B grade: Declan #9 - 3rd Miniwheel A grade: Ethan #38 - 3rd Miniwheel A grade: Mateo #31 - 2nd 85cc SW A grade: Carly #41 - 2nd 85cc JBW A grade: Matt #262 - 2nd Well done to all members for their great sportsmanship, camaraderie and positive attitudes. You always do our club proud and look great in your riding jerseys. Keep up the good work and the great riding. The next round of the Minikhana series will be on May 3rd, when the Hornsby club hosts round 2 at the Junior Trials club grounds in Gwandalan, Central Coast. To make this event as successful as it has been in the past, we NEED ALL MEMBERS to help out wherever you can. An open committee meeting will be held on Wednesday night, April 22nd at the Dural Country Club starting at 7pm. All members are encouraged to come along and listen to what the committee is trying to achieve and need to do to run our regional event. With the new format in place of only one series and being able to drop your worst round, 31 competitors turned up for round 2 of the club championship.
Rain the day before and drizzle on the day helped keep the dust down but also kept riders bikes dirty. After a huge effort by members on previous working bee days, the clubs grounds were in tip top shape, except for the clover area that is still under a revamp. However, members still got to compete in seven events, that got them ready for the first regional event to be held next weekend at Blacktown. Whilst this may have been the first round of competition for many riders, the enthusiasm and determination to come and have a good day shone through proving that it is all about having a good time, no matter the result. With that said, riders who rose to the top of the podium for the day were: 1st 50cc Auto: Ben #50 1st Miniwheels: Mateo #31 1st 65cc: Brad #444 1st 85cc SW: Will #8 A special mention goes to all our nippers that had a great day of riding, Linc #62, Aria #11, Matilda #16, Indiana #79, Tyler #211, Sienna #52 and Ashlyn #256. Well done to you all for coming along for the day and having a go and well done to the number of girl riders! Our next event will be a practice day on April 12th. Gates open at 8am with canteen and a BBQ on sale. Good Luck to all members riding for the Hornsby Junior Dirtbike Club next weekend at the first Regional Minikhana event for the year at Blacktown Club's grounds at Horsley Park. A huge Thank you to all involved for making the last working bee a huge success. We had quite a number of helpers turn up and with many machines and experienced operators behind them, The club grounds are undergoing a massive upgrade compared to previous years.
All event areas and the Minicross track have had major work done on them to try and make them last for the competition and practice days coming up throughout the year. Another working bee is now scheduled for Saturday 14th March to re-instate all the ropes for the event areas. Again, many hands make light work and all available support is greatly appreciated. Please contact the secretary here, if you can make it. Sunday 8th Feb, saw the first round of the revamped Hornsby Club Championship for 2015 get underway. In previous years we have run the club championship over two series consisting of four rounds each. This year, we will be running a straight nine round series with the ability of dropping a riders worst round to maximise their chance of getting the most amount of points towards the championship.
With that said, a large enthusiastic group of riders started the day, which proved to be hot both on and off the track. After our first working bee the grounds were looking in reasonable shape ready for competition. With a larger working bee planned for Sunday 22nd Feb, we should have the grounds back up to scratch after the off season. Seven events were contested, with the ring events proving to be the hardest. Slow is always a hit and miss affair with smart riding and a close eye on the officials often helping you achieve a great result. Two rounds of minicross were run which produced a number of spectacular offs as well as some close racing in a number of classes. Results for the day were as follows: Nippers: Sean, Charlie and Jack 1st 50cc Auto: Will #693 1st Miniwheels: Mateo #31 1st 65cc: Brad #444 1st 85cc SW: Indy #13 1st 85cc BW: Matt #262 Well done to all riders for your riding ability and great sportsmanship. Also a big congrats to the new committee for putting on a great day and to all the parents for helping out as well. Our next event is a practice day this Sunday 15th Feb. BBQ Lunch will be provided so get your orders in early. Unfortunately no Bacon and Egg Rolls on sale this weekend. Gates open at 8am. Still mopping up after wild storms the day before, and with the threat of more to come that evening, Hornsby Junior Dirtbike Members were considering cancelling this event and doing only a static demonstration. As set-up began though, the weather gods began to give us a reprieve and riding got under way just after 6pm.
Approx. 8 riders, put on a crowd gathering display of Minikhana skills, as they entertained on lookers during 2 hours of cone events at the 2014 Bunnings Xmas Family Fun Night. With some grippy tarmac riding, that almost caught a number of riders out, the exciting sport of minikhana got taken to a new level as riders had to adjust their style from the relatively slippery dirt surface, to a hard unforgiving tarmac surface. A very successful night, saw many members talking to the general public all about what the Hornsby Junior Dirtbike Club do and how they can get involved. With the riding season finished for 2014, it was great event for the young riders who attended to try something different and help attract interest in the club for the 2015 season that will get under way in late January. A very big thank you to all members that came along and supported or helped out in making the night a great success. Every year at the end of the Motorcycling Season, Motorcycling NSW, our State Controlling Body, holds a presentation night to award all those riders for their stellar performances in all disciplines of riding from NSW.
The night was held at the Penrith Panthers Home Grounds and MC'd by Mr Mark Beretta, Channel Seven's own sports commentator. A lovely formal event, with lots of glitz and glamour, was attended by approx. 20 club members as they got to receive awards for doing so well in 2014 in the form of a special plaque to commemorate their achievement. Congratulations to Nick #17, Will #6, Jack #15, Matt #515, Matt #117 and Brad #246. On the hottest weekend of November, the club descended on the Louee motocross complex just outside of Mudgee NSW for three days of riding and presentations to end the 2014 season of riding.
The temperature on the Saturday topped approx. 38 degrees and after the wind that caught a number of riders out whilst airborne on the Friday, it was a testing but fun weekend. Presentation of the series 2 points took place, as well as the final club championship places, most improved rider and highest point getter for the Hornsby Club at all the seven interclub events for the year. Most improved rider went to Miniwheels #15 rider Jack. Jack is moving onto a 65cc next year but finished a stellar season by also coming =3rd place in the State Minikhana Championship held in October. Highest points scorer for the Hornsby Club out of all Seven Regionals was Matthew #117 riding a Small Wheel 85cc. Committee positions have changed over to the 2015 year and are in the process of being published. In the meantime, if you have any queries please email the secretary here. To all riders and families, Merry Xmas from the 2014 and 2015 committee. Travel safe over the festive period and we look forward to seeing you all and any new members in the 2015 season for another big year of dirtbikes. What great weather and what a great turnout for the final round of the club championship 2014.
An enthusiastic bunch of riders started the last round with plenty of smiles and a keen eye on the final prize of the year, the overall club championship. The top riders were not separated by much and it would prove to be a gripping culmination to a year full of wonderful results for the Hornsby club both at home and away in competition. Seven events tested the riders on the always tricky Hornsby event area's putting their skills to the test for one last time in 2014. Some riders shone in the dust, others lost their way in what is always a tough outcome. Some thrilling minicross events in the bigger bike classes added some excitement for marshals, spectators and riders at the end of a long day after proceedings dragged out somewhat due to the Annual General Meeting. Riders who made it to the podium at the conclusion of proceedings where: 1st 50cc - Callie #19 1st Miniwheels - Jack #15 Equal 1st 65cc - Ella #80/Noah #93 1st 85cc Small Wheel - Mat #515 1st 85cc Big Wheel - Lucas #240 1st Seniors - Jonno #911 Congratulations to all who competed on the day no matter your result and good luck to all for your place in the club championship. Your passion for the sport and leadership example for the younger riders has been exemplary and will be missed. Good luck in your future riding career. The club would like to thank all of the outgoing committee members for their hard work and commitment over the 2014 season and say a very big WELCOME and THANK YOU to all the new members who have pledged their commitment to their kids and the club for the upcoming 2015 season. Without the voluntary support and hard work of those involved, there would be no club to compete at. Remember to book your spot at Louee Motocross Complex for the 2014 Xmas party and final club presentation. Details of Louee can be found here. |
