![]() The heat was on for the Minikhana State Cup on Saturday the 19th and Sunday 20th October. As representatives from Penrith, JT, Baulkham Hills, Sutherland, Blacktown and Hornsby came together, the friendly rivalry between the clubs began. It was Hornsby's turn to run the event this year and what an amazing job the committee did. With all hands on deck the two days ran smoothly, like a well-oiled machine. A huge thanks to Penrith Miniclub for allowing Hornsby to use their track for the event. The conditions were hot and dry this year which made some events quite slippery, just to add an extra challenge in! Riders competed in 6 events each day which covered all the Minikhana events and giving the riders an opportunity to do Minicross both days. Our demo riders had lots of opportunity to ride with some event areas set up especially for them and the small Minicross made available for them after lunch. Our 65cc and Miniwheel classes were all big, competitive groups as were our 85cc SW & BW classes. The usual riders briefing, scrutineering and sign-on got underway each morning (not to mention the essential coffee) but the big attraction this year was the raffle of a Kawasaki KLX 110 motorbike as the major prize. Everyone had their “eyes on the prize.” Well done to the lucky Blacktown rider who won this at the end of the Sunday, as well as all the other prize winners. HJDBC appreciates the support of all who took their chance at a win and bought tickets over the weekend. As usual the last event of the weekend was the 85cc BW Minicross providing entertainment and inspiration for all the younger riders and parents and for the many marshals who had been busy all weekend. The riders showed great skill and sportsmanship as they negotiated the dry track and the extra numbers on the start line! A highlight for the Hornsby club at the end of Sunday’s competition was the announcement that they were the overall winners of the 2019 Interclub series finishing on the top step 2 years in a row! In total Hornsby had 45 riders attend the day which was a great turn out for such a small club. Congratulations to all the riders for attending and well done to the riders making the podium. Hornsby riders competed well all weekend with the following riders taking out a podium places. Where else would our club president be on his birthday? Sunny Sutherland was definitely the place to be last Sunday for the last Minikhana Interclub before the State Titles. 30 Hornsby riders joined their friendly rivals from the other Sydney clubs to see who had the will and the skill to win each event on the day. The six events run on the day were Acceler8, footed clover, ring return, orange, bending and minicross. The temperature was hot both on and off the track as riders attempted each event with eagerness and drive. Competition was close and the Hornsby support was evident as riders and their families enjoyed yet another day of fun and friendship. The Sydney Minikhana clubs came together, once again this calendar year to compete rider to rider, club to club at the Penrith Interclub.
The day was forecast to be warm and sunny however the morning chill was evident as bikes were unloaded from trailers and pushed down the narrow car park to warm up for the day. Red Frogs were handed out at sign on which kept all the kids (and parents) going for the day. Riders gathered in the pits and awaited their event area designations. This is always a good opportunity to socialize with friends and meet new ones. Events competed in across the day included; accelerate & brake, slow, bending, orange, minicross, ring return and footed clover. Riders competed within their grade with some riders competing in a new grade after placing at the last interclub. Hornsby were well represented and as always “had each other's backs” by supporting one another both on and off the track. A full list of the points can be found here. Big thanks to our photographer Steve for another great selection of pics from the day which can be found here. We have Race Pace coaching coming to the club on Saturday 31st August. Head coach Michel Constantinou has been coming to the club for a number of years now and his coaching classes are not to be missed. Please contact Race Pace direct to book your spot or Click here. On Sunday 43 riders and their families braved the cold August winds and attended Series 2, Round 2 at HJDBC. There were plenty of jackets, beanies and gloves to keep everyone warm enough to get through the day and lots of volunteers to cook the BBQ, the warmest place at the track!
The morning began with some warm up activities and stretches for the riders. This was followed by; orange, slow, bending, ring return, looping, accelerate and brake and footed clover. Once again results were close and sportsmanship was prominent. The lunchtime buzz was electric with everyone taking a well-earned break to refuel their bikes and bodies. The afternoon was spent on the race track with heats and finals now with up to 6 riders on the grid. This, along with a dusty track made for exciting starts. Thank you to 'On the Throttle' for your kind voucher donation which was won by a lucky member in our raffle for the day. The final results were so close there was one class, 65cc with both an equal first and equal third which generated a 'run off' at the end of the day. This was a fun way to end the day. Results for the day were; 8 Nippers: #177 Coby #601 Tiana #42 Saul #282 Saba #823 Ryder #41 Tate # 720 Matteo #263 Marli 50cc - #5 Jamie MW - #17 Chad 65cc - #150 Sam 85cc - #61 Byron JBW - #04 Kye The full list of results can be found here and yet again Steve has captured some amazing thrills & spills of the day which can be found here. Our marshals definitely need a shout out today as I am sure they are only still thawing out after being amongst the elements for the day. Our next event is the Penrith Interclub on this Sunday 18th August. With such a strong performance today lets put those skills in action and show the other Minikhana clubs how it’s done!
